As an IB PYP leader and educator, I believe deeply that cultivating inquiry is not only central to the IB Learner Profile, but also to nurturing lifelong learners. The Inquirer attribute forms the foundation for intellectual curiosity, independent thought, and critical engagement with the world. In an age where answers are a click away, the real skill lies not in knowing, but in wondering, questioning, and pursuing meaningful discovery.


The IB defines the Inquirer as someone who develops their natural curiosity. They acquire the skills necessary to conduct inquiry and research and show independence in learning. They actively enjoy learning and this love of learning will be sustained throughout their lives. But what does this look like in practice?


How can educators across age groups from Early Years to Grade 12 embed the spirit of inquiry into daily life, classroom culture, and student identity? Below, I explore practical, age-appropriate strategies and tools, while emphasizing the importance of reflection, play, and visible thinking in fostering the inquirer within every student.📚
